It is important that the beach compositions I paint are truly democratic. For me, editing humans out of a scene because of any aspect of their physical presence removes its honesty and interest. Of course the editing happens when I select my composition and I will always remain as true as possible to that initial image so I don't alter the balance of activity. Here, the enigmatic figures at the back frozen in thought are as important as the two figures staring at the viewer on each edge of the canvas.
