Beach XXVII
The Poolside series
2023
The 18th Century painter Nicolas Poussin created skin colours for his subjects from very specific tones. I have used this method for my own skin tones – dark or light, they emerge from a single hue with the addition of colour and white. This heightens a sense of myth as well as community. This composition applies the same idea to line, in that it is creating connections between people and other people or objects so they merge seamlessly to become a whole.
